Located in a remote area, which is more than a 10-hour drive from Kampala, the capital of Uganda -- is Karungu Village.
It is near the borders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. This rural village has no hospital or even a reliable water source.
Villagers have to walk 15 long kilometers to the nearest public hospital and six kilometers up a rugged mountain path, just to get water.
Karungu Village residents live on land abandoned by the country and its government.
Children living there receive no support or access to education programs from the government nor have guardians or means of livelihood. They have resorted to gambling to survive and alcoholism to cope with the harsh reality of life.
It is a Community Based Organization (CBO) working in Karungu Village and is mostly composed of the youth from this area.
They have already built a school here as well as an orphanage to give shelter to orphans who have lost their parents.
They also plan to construct a hospital, create access to a convenient water supply, and cultivate local agriculture sources. Other industries will be targeted as well in order to further develop the area.
As a Community Based Organization, they have been authorized by the Ugandan government to provide various services to Karungu Village.
